Getting Started in Backgammon
A lot of new players make the same mistake when attempting to play Backgammon online. They read about the money tourneys, download a game and learn the rules. After a few games they play for money and lose, getting frustrated in the process. That is not how you become good at the game.

Next download a game and play. Most of them are free, so there is no harm trying. If you lose, do not blame it on the dice; just accept the fact that you are still a new player and are competing against a computer. If you prefer to play against people, it is easy to find a free Backgammon online server.
Again, do not be too discouraged if you lose; it is just part of your training. If you get taunts, just look for another server. That is probably not even necessary, for most Backgammon online servers are filled with players who are only too willing to help new players like you.
That is how you get started in Backgammon games. Just keep playing and learning new strategies. Eventually the time will come when you will feel ready to play Backgammon for money or in tourneys. Win or lose, you should always review the game. See what you did, right or wrong, and try to improve your skills.
